About Ezulwini Africa

A South African aquaponic farming business founded to create change through farming.

Who we are

What Ezulwini does

Ezulwini Africa is a South African aquaponic farming business founded to create change through farming. The business started in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga, and is building a network of smart, systemised farms that produce fresh local food, create jobs, train young farmers, and develop ownership pathways for young black farmers.

Ezulwini grows fresh produce including lettuces, leafy greens, herbs, cucumbers, microgreens, edible flowers, and seasonal tomatoes. The business supplies food-service, retail, and fresh produce buyers while building a repeatable operating model for future farms.

The long-term vision is to support a network of commercially viable farms where local operators are backed by systems, training, technology, reporting, and market access. Ezulwini's model combines practical farming, disciplined operations, impact, and commercial sustainability.

The method

Why aquaponics

At Ezulwini, aquaponics is treated as a platform for disciplined farm operations, training, production, data, and market access.

Water-smart, controlled growing

Aquaponics connects fish, water, nutrients, and plants in a more circular growing system that reuses nutrients instead of wasting them.

Teachable and measurable

A more controlled environment makes farming more teachable, more measurable, and better suited to repeatable farm operations.

Built for people and process

Ezulwini treats aquaponics as a platform for disciplined operations, training, production, data, and market access — not as a gadget.

From the founder

A note from Lee

Lliam Roach, founder and Managing Director of Ezulwini Africa, inside the aquaponic growing tunnel in Dullstroom
"I started Ezulwini because I believe farming can do more than produce food. It can create jobs, build ownership, train people, and open doors for young farmers who have historically been locked out of real commercial opportunity. Our work is not perfect or easy, but the direction is clear: build farms that work, train people properly, sell good produce, and create change through farming."
